Medical Record Keeping – Fit For Patient Access? Webinar for GP Practices

Date: 21 March 2023 - Virtual interactive event
Time: 13:30 – 14:30

One in five GP practices in England now offer full prospective record access by default after 1,400 GP practices ‘went live’ with records access between December 2022 and February 2023. Research shows that patients overwhelming want access to their notes. Patients want to request their medication, check their test results, book appointments but also prepare for appointments, better understand their health conditions and take more control of their health.

Clinicians support this transition in principle too, but report feeling ill-prepared for documenting in the notes in a way that allows the record to be used as a professional tool, as well as for the patient to use and understand.

The Wandsworth Training Hub, together with GP and Clinical Lead for Digital First in Wandsworth, Dr Devin Gray, is hosting a series of sessions for All practice staff (clinical and non-clinical) throughout March and April 2023, aiming to:

  • Raise awareness of the need for primary care staff to engage in a different relationship with electronic health records
  • Approach documentation in a way that allows succinct and safe entries in the notes that patients can access and understand
  • Empower clinical staff to use records access as a tool for higher-quality, more collaborative patient care
  • Avoid common pitfalls and navigate safeguarding issues related to patient access

This is an evidence-based, practical training session based on the learning from countries around the world who have been using ‘open notes’ for many years.
